Why At Home

Your Court.
Your Coach.

Private tennis lessons at home are built around the simplest of advantages: you already own the court. A fully vetted LTA-qualified coach arrives at your address, the session is one-to-one on your surface, your child does not have to share court time with seven other juniors. No club fees. No waiting for a court slot. No driving to Roehampton on a wet Tuesday in February.

Sessions are tailored to age, level and goals. A four-year-old's first session looks nothing like a thirteen-year-old county-level junior's, and we will match a coach who understands the difference. Many of our tennis families are in Richmond, Wimbledon, Chiswick, St Albans and Harpenden, where private courts are most common.

Every Session Covers

What Sessions
Look Like.

Technique

Strokes & Grips

Forehand, backhand (single and double-handed), serve, volley, smash. Grip work from the first session — the single biggest predictor of long-term progress.

Footwork

Movement & Positioning

Split-step, recovery, court geography, anticipation. The other half of tennis — and the half group classes rarely have time to coach properly.

Tactics

Patterns & Match Play

Rally patterns, court craft, building points. Live-ball drills and match-play work introduced from intermediate level upwards.

Mini Tennis

Ages 4 To 7

Red and orange ball stages of the LTA pathway. Sponge-soft balls, shorter courts, scaled rackets. Confidence and racket-skills first.

Juniors

Green & Yellow Ball

Progression into green and full yellow ball. Stroke development, serve technique, tactical awareness, fitness-of-game.

Adults

Improvers & Returners

Brushing up an existing game, returning after years away, or starting from scratch. Adult coaching welcomed alongside children.

Who It's For

First Racket
To County Level.

Our youngest tennis pupils start at age four with red-ball mini-tennis — foam balls, short rackets, lots of games. Five to seven year olds typically progress through the LTA red and orange stages. Eight to twelve year olds move into green and yellow ball, building all four strokes and proper serve mechanics. Teenagers and adults work on whatever the priority is: technique correction, tactical play, fitness, match preparation.

We also coach players who already train at a club but want one-to-one time to fix a specific shot, build their serve, or prepare for a tournament — the private home session is the highest-leverage tennis time most juniors will ever have.

Ages 4 to 7 — mini tennis foundation (red & orange ball)
Ages 8 to 12 — full strokes and tactical play (green & yellow)
Teenagers — technique, tactics, match preparation
Adults — improvers, returners and beginners

Common Questions

Private Tennis
FAQs.

What qualifications does the tennis coach hold?
All our tennis coaches hold an LTA-accredited coaching qualification (typically Level 3 or above), are LTA Accredited or Accredited+, carry enhanced DBS clearance and full public liability insurance, and have been personally interviewed and reference-checked by SwimFitz. We share credentials with you before the first session.
Do I need to own a tennis court at home?
For this service, yes — the coach comes to your court. If you have a hard court, clay, artificial grass or grass court at your home, we can coach there. If you do not have a home court but have a private club membership and would like a SwimFitz coach to deliver lessons at your club, ask — we can discuss whether your club permits external coaches.
What ages do you coach?
From age 4 upwards. Younger children work through the LTA mini-tennis stages (red and orange ball), progressing to green and yellow ball as they grow. We also coach teenagers and adults — many parents take a lesson alongside their child or have their own.
My child already trains at a club. Can private home sessions help?
Frequently they help more than another group session would. One-to-one time means specific shots get fixed, serves get rebuilt, tactical patterns get drilled. For competitive juniors, a private weekly home session alongside club training is often the difference between steady and rapid progress.
Can adults take lessons too?
Yes — adult coaching is welcomed. Common reasons: returning to tennis after years away, fixing a serve that has never quite worked, building match-fitness, or simply learning from scratch in private without a class audience.
Which areas do you cover for tennis?
We cover all of Greater London and Hertfordshire wherever private courts exist. Highest concentration of pupils in Richmond, Wimbledon, Chiswick, Kingston, St Albans, Harpenden, Radlett, Rickmansworth, Hampstead, Notting Hill and Mayfair. If you are outside these areas, ask — we may still cover you.
