Why At Home

Cricket, One To One

Almost everything that actually makes a cricketer better is repetition, and repetition is the one thing a club session cannot give a child. Forty minutes in your own garden against a coach who only has to watch one player will do more for a batting trigger or a bowling action than a Saturday morning of waiting in a queue.

Will It Work Here

What you need at home

A lawn with roughly 20 metres of clear run, or a net or cage
Reasonably level ground - a slope changes the bounce more than you would think
A net is ideal but not essential; we bring a portable stop-net where there is none
Space to the side, so a mistimed pull shot does not reach a window

Your coach brings

Balls, stumps, cones, markers and a portable stop-net. Bats and pads if the player does not have their own.

Not sure whether your space works? Send a photo with your enquiry and we will tell you honestly before anything is booked.

In Practice

What Coaching Here Is Like

A garden beats a net for technique

Grooving an action needs hundreds of repetitions with someone correcting between each one. That is exactly what a club net session cannot offer and a one-to-one at home can. We film on a phone and play it back poolside-style, between deliveries rather than at the end.

Hard ball, soft ball, or neither

We work with whatever is appropriate for the player and the space. A young player in a small garden works with an incrediball or a tennis ball and loses nothing technically; a club junior with a net works with a hard ball.

What a garden cannot teach

Match awareness, running between the wickets and playing under pressure need a game. We will say so. Home coaching builds the technique a player takes into a match; it does not replace playing in one.

How It Works

Four Steps

01

Tell Us What You Need

Who the coaching is for, roughly what level, and what space you have. A photo helps more than a description.

02

We Match A Coach

Enhanced DBS, recognised qualifications, fully insured, and personally approved before they are offered to you.

03

Coach Arrives At Home

Everything for the session comes with them and leaves again. Nothing is stored at your property.

04

Ongoing Or One-Off

A standing weekly slot, a block over a school holiday, or a single session. All three are normal.

Questions

Cricket At Home

About twenty metres of clear run is comfortable for a junior, and less if we are working on batting alone off a short approach. If you have a net or a cage, anything goes. Send a photo with your enquiry and we will tell you honestly what is workable.
No. A net makes a session more efficient because nobody chases the ball, but we bring a portable stop-net where there is not one. Plenty of good technical work happens on an open lawn.
Only where the space and the player make that sensible. Younger players and smaller gardens use an incrediball or a soft ball, which changes nothing about the technique being coached and a great deal about your windows.
From about seven, when a child can hold a shape long enough to correct it, through to adult club players wanting a winter technical reset. Each session is one-to-one.
Outdoors in a British winter, rarely. If you have a garage, a barn or an indoor space with height, technical work carries on year round. Otherwise most households run an intensive block in spring before the season.
