Why At Home

Ballet, One To One

Ballet is taught in groups almost everywhere, which works beautifully for some children and not at all for others. A child who is self-conscious, who is behind their class, or who is well ahead of it, gets more from twenty minutes of undivided correction than from an hour at the back of a studio.

Will It Work Here

What you need at home

A smooth hard floor - wood or vinyl. Carpet is the one real obstacle
Roughly three metres by three, clear of furniture
Something to use as a barre: a sturdy chair back or a kitchen counter both work
Enough height to raise an arm fully overhead, which rules out a few low basements

Your coach brings

Portable barre where a household does not have one, music, and resistance bands for strength work.

Not sure whether your space works? Send a photo with your enquiry and we will tell you honestly before anything is booked.

In Practice

What Coaching Here Is Like

The floor matters more than the space

Carpet is the problem, not square footage. A pirouette needs a surface that releases the foot, and a thick carpet makes clean turns impossible and the knee work unsafe. A hallway with wooden boards beats a large carpeted playroom every time.

A chair back is a perfectly good barre

Households often think they need to install something. They do not. A sturdy chair, a kitchen counter at hip height or a windowsill all work for barre work, and we bring a portable barre where nothing suitable exists.

Privacy is the point for a lot of our dancers

A surprising share of our ballet pupils are children who stopped enjoying class because of who was watching. At home there is no mirror wall and no audience, and confidence tends to come back quickly.

How It Works

Four Steps

01

Tell Us What You Need

Who the coaching is for, roughly what level, and what space you have. A photo helps more than a description.

02

We Match A Coach

Enhanced DBS, recognised qualifications, fully insured, and personally approved before they are offered to you.

03

Coach Arrives At Home

Everything for the session comes with them and leaves again. Nothing is stored at your property.

04

Ongoing Or One-Off

A standing weekly slot, a block over a school holiday, or a single session. All three are normal.

Questions

Ballet At Home

It is the one thing that genuinely limits what can be taught. Turns and jumps need a surface that lets the foot release. If there is a wooden or tiled area anywhere in the house, even a hallway, that is usually the better room.
No. A sturdy chair back or a kitchen counter at hip height works for barre work, and we bring a portable barre where a household would rather not improvise.
From around four for pre-ballet and movement, through to adults returning after years away. Teenagers preparing for auditions are a regular part of the work.
Where the teacher we match you with holds the relevant qualification for that syllabus, yes, and we will tell you plainly which board and which grades they can prepare. Where they do not, we will say so rather than improvise.
Whatever they would wear to class, and ballet shoes rather than socks for anything beyond the first session. Bare feet are fine for very young children doing movement work.
