What Teaching Here Is Actually Like
Tetbury is a working market town that happens to sit among some of the most substantial private houses in Gloucestershire. Westonbirt, Chavenage and Highgrove are all within a few miles of the market hall, and the estates between them have been quietly adding pool houses for forty years.
The pool is rarely near the house
It is in a converted stable block, a purpose-built pool house across the yard, or at the far end of a walled garden. Bring a dressing gown; the walk back is the coldest part of the lesson in February.
Discretion is not a nice-to-have
Households here usually prefer one named coach who knows the gate code, the dogs and where to park, rather than whoever is on the rota. You get the same face every week, and we do not discuss clients. Ever.
Plenty of these houses are part-time
Kemble is seven miles away and Paddington about seventy-five minutes from it, so a good number of Tetbury pools belong to households who are here some weeks and not others. We coach seven days a week, so we fit the lesson to whatever rhythm the house actually keeps.
